There’s probably a version of that game where things go even better, but I won’t spend the time dreaming it up.
The Cubs were clicking in all ways tonight, with Jake Arrieta pitching confidently and efficiently (must be the haircut), with the defense looking smooth, and the offense firing away.
Each of Ian Happ and Addison Russell had four hits, Kris Bryant went deep, Willson Contreras went deep, Mark Zagunis drove in his first run and stole a base, Jake Arrieta had a couple hits in addition to the pitching loveliness.
Given the craziness of the day that preceded it, and the challenges that still lie ahead for this roster, it was really good to have this kind of game to kick off something of a pivotal road trip.
