The Cubs have split the first two games of the series, and head into today’s contest with a chance to guarantee a split and a shot at winning three of four tomorrow.
Here’s the unusual group that’ll try:
- Jon Jay, LF
- Kris Bryant, 1B
- Willson Contreras, C
- Addison Russell, SS
- Ian Happ, 2B
- Javy Baez, 3B
- Albert Almora Jr., CF
- Mark Zagunis, RF
- Jon Lester, P
Well that’s not a lineup I expected to see, like, at all, this season, but here we are. With a day off for Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant covers first base and Jon Jay takes his role as leadoff hitter. Covering third for Bryant is Javy Baez, which means Ian Happ is in at second and Albert Almora is out in center.
The rookie, Mark Zagunis, gets his second Major League start out in right field, Addison Russell is the cleanup hitter, and Jon Lester is pitching and batting ninth.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time.
