You win some, you lose some, you win some, you lose some, you win some, you lose your mind because the Chicago Cubs can not find a way to inch further away from .500 than just a game or two … you lose some.
Jon Lester is starting for the Chicago Cubs this afternoon, and he’s coming off two pretty good starts against the Mets (7.0 IP, 1ER) and Padres (6.0 IP, 2 ER). He had hit a bit of a rough patch just before that, but his overall season numbers are slowly improving (3.66 FIP – 19th in MLB). Hopefully, he gives the offense plenty of room to work through their inconsistencies, and the Cubs can pull out a victory.
The opposing starter, Justin Nicolino, has been worth -0.2 fWAR through four starts and 16.0 IP this season. I know the Marlins offense is pretty strong and anything can happen in baseball, but this is a ridiculously winnable game for the Cubs. So, you know, they should really try to win it.
