There’s going to be a fair bit to deconstruct from this one in the morning, but if you’re feeling like I am, you kinda just want to let this one go tonight.
The first four innings were an absolute clinic in death by a thousand paper cuts, some divinely-inflicted (the Nationals deserved some good BABIP luck after last night), and some self-inflicted. A bunch of infield singles, walks, two errors, a wild pitch, and seven(!) stolen bases allowed. The Nats didn’t really do much in the way of aggressive damage at the plate, and they came away with four runs through four innings.
It was galling, and it was also plenty to win the game, as the Cubs’ bats did nothing against Max Scherzer (expected) or the Nats’ middle relievers (less expected).
Throw this one away. Forget about it. Move on.
