The Cubs’ offense was having all kinds of trouble converting baserunners into runs today – you’ve heard that tale before – and they faced a 3-0 deficit in the 6th inning.
And with two more runners on base, the Cubs were down to their final out in the inning when Joe Maddon sent Jon Jay up to pinch hit for starter John Lackey.
Down 1-2 in the count, Jay went low to get an Erasmo Ramirez offering, and he hit it very hard the other way (via @Cubs):

Boom. Game tied. The Cubs went on to win 7-3.
Jay was the deserved recipient of a curtain call:

The blast was only Jay’s second of the year, but both have come in the last week. And how about this: although Jay came into the game hitting an incredible .370 in pinch hitting opportunities this year, that was his first extra base hit in those situations. Pretty good time for it.
