Chicago Cubs

Back to .500!

Today’s game was exceedingly weird and frustrating (for both teams) early on, as the teams combined to leave an insane number of runners on base through three innings, with each starting pitcher struggling his way into jams, and then getting out of them. Each team made three errors in the game, and combined to go 3-24(!) with runners in scoring position.

For the Cubs, however, the failing to come through ceased in the fourth inning, when Kris Bryant drove in the Cubs’ first run on a triple, and Anthony Rizzo followed with a homer. Bryant went on to homer two more times in the game, just missing a cycle on the second one.

Thanks to all the early jams and pitches, Eddie Butler managed just four innings again in this one, so the bullpen had to cover the rest of the game, and, for the most part, did so admirably.
