Tonight, the National League will take on the American League in the 88th annual MLB All-Star Game from Marlins Park in Miami, Florida.
There are not many Chicago Cubs in this one, Wade Davis is their lone representative, but Joe Maddon will manage the NL squad tonight, having won the 2016 World Series with the Cubs. In the other dugout, Brad Mills, the Indians’ bench coach, is standing in for Terry Francona.
Starting for the National League is Max Scherzer, who’s having himself one hell of a season, while posting the best strikeout rate of his entire career (35.5%). Of course, the American League is sending the only guy pitching better than him this season, Chris Sale. Sale, if you can believe it, has already been worth 5.3 fWAR in half a season. If he simply follows his projections the rest of the way (no over-performance whatsoever), he’ll produce the third most WAR in a season by a starting pitcher in the last decade.
Alright, it’s NL v. AL. Who will come out on top?
