Cubs: defending champions, hottest team in baseball, clearly on an upward trajectory.
White Sox: among the worst records in baseball, losers of nine straight, in total selloff mode.
Naturally, then, the White Sox beat the Cubs today. Baseball!
Kyle Hendricks looked passable in his return to the mound, though the velocity looked to be even lower than his pre-injury marks (which were down from last year), and the command was not yet 100%. I wouldn’t say the outing concerned me any more than I was or wasn’t before the injury. Let’s give him time to ramp back up.
Offensively, it was just one of those days where the Cubs didn’t get the big hit in any of their many opportunities to do so. It’s been easy to forget that sometimes that happens given their recent success with runners on scoring position, but, well, yeah, sometimes it happens, even against crummy pitching.
Basically, that sucked. Sometimes it does.
