Jen-Ho Tseng had another very good start for Iowa, his fourth in four tries. His Iowa ERA is now a very healthy 1.42. He needed 101 pitches in this game, and that total marks the second time he has broken the 100 pitch mark in Triple A.
Barring something totally unexpected (or a trade), I will be surprised if Tseng, 22, is not called to Chicago in September (he is eligible for the Rule 5 Draft after this season, and thus will have to be put on the 40-man roster anyway). I will also be surprised if he is not the Pitcher of the Month for July.
Again, unless he is traded. If I were an opposing GM with a nice backup catcher to deal, I’d probably be trying my hardest to pry someone like Tseng away from the Cubs in exchange for that catcher. I may not succeed, but I’d be trying. [Brett: Agreed, though the Cubs should be EXTREMELY reluctant to part with one of their few AAA-level, starting-capable arms, for depth reasons if nothing else.]
Triple A: Iowa Cubs
Iowa 9, El Paso 8
El Paso scored seven times in the final two innings, but Iowa still managed the win.

Montgomery 2, Tennessee 0
The only thing worse than being shutout at home is being shutout at home with a two and a half hour rain delay in the middle.
High A: Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Pelicans were rained out.
Low A: South Bend Cubs
Lake County 7, South Bend 3
The Cubs were outhit seventeen to four.
Short Season A: Eugene Emeralds

Four strikeouts were good for Albertos, but other than that it was a rough night.
Rookie: AZL Cubs
Arizona had the night off.
