Kyle Hendricks second game back from the disabled list feels rather significant.
While the Cubs have been trending in the right direction lately and the Brewers the opposite, the bad guys won one last night and could take over first tonight. Hopefully, the Cubs bounce back like they’ve done after dropping the first game in each of their past two series, and head into tomorrow with a chance to win their fifth straight series in the second half.
Hendricks last start against the White Sox wasn’t bad in terms of results (1 earned run). And he didn’t walk anyone while striking out five, but he lasted just 4.1 innings, allowed eight hits, and flashed even lower velocity than usual. Obviously, a ramp up phase was expected, but here’s to hoping he back to 100% for tonight’s start.
Junior Guerra is on the mound for the Brewers, and although he’s a righty, he’s been pretty split neutral for his career and season. He’s also not had a ton of success this year, but as we’ve seen many times over this season, that doesn’t always matter. Let’s just sit back and see if the Cubs can get it done.
