#BNBlogathon Check-In: Hour 12

Chicago Cubs

I am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, and on Twitter (hash tag #BNBlogathon for those who want to jump into the fray themselves) – for 40 hours straight, until a little past MLB’s July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline, thanks to your generous donations to Make-A-Wish. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day, but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, news, Pre-Gamin’, EBS, etc.), as well as a significant uptick in rumor/trade posts.

Total Posts So Far:

News and Rumors Since the Last Check-In:

The Cubs are still talking to the Tigers about Alex Avila, according to Jon Morosi.

Also, congrats to Adrian Beltre on hit number 3,000!

Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:

Honestly, I’ve mostly been watching the Cubs game. John Lackey looked good today, which, given how things have been for him this year, was definitely interesting. That’s a lot of solid starts for him in the second half.

Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:

I guess I’ll just say it again-again: Getting Quintana when the Cubs did was obviously a stroke of both genius and good luck. A back-up catcher is coming, and probably a bullpen arm, too. Anything else would be gravy, and only if it presents a can’t-say-no opportunity for the Cubs.

Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:

I had to go stock up:

As soon as I dip into the new Coke Zero Sugar, I’ll let you know how it is.

Where I’m Writing:

Back at the condo, though I’ll be hitting up Cozy Noodle as soon as this game ends.

Strangest Thought Passing Through My Mind:

I wonder what my fastest fastball would be. Would the average big league eephus pitch be faster than my fastball? I think it might.
