Chicago Cubs

Well. At least The Wife and I had a nice anniversary day together.

The Cubs got some things cooking throughout the game, but couldn’t push any runs across until there were two outs in the 9th, and while any rally is admirable, it was too little, too late.

Jon Lester was fantastic through five innings, and he really wasn’t that bad in the 6th either, but some defensive lapses behind him and flukey batted balls wound up netting four runs (three earned), and Lester’s night was over.

The bullpen let in a couple runs after that, and the deficit was too wide for a teaser rally in the 9th to make a difference. At least the Cubs made the Diamondbacks use another pitcher, I guess.

Kyle Schwarber had the Golden Sombrero, Anthony Rizzo left five on base (though he flew out to the warning track with the bases loaded), and Ben Zobrist went 0-5 to drop his average to just .221.

Win tomorrow’s game, and this is still a very good series.

But, um, that was still bad …
