The Cubs missed out on a golden scoring opportunity in the third inning when Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo failed to come through with runners on first and third with nobody out.
They made up for it in a big way the very next inning, though. After it looked like Jason Heyward would be stranded after a leadoff single, Jon Jay tripled him home, and Tommy La Stella singled to scored Jay.
Then Bryant warmed things up:

Bryant’s power is definitely back (if it was ever actually gone), and he’s easily the hottest hitter in baseball right now.
And he wasn’t the only one who atoned – Rizzo followed Bryant with a back-to-back shot:

That was Rizzo’s team-leading 27th homer, and there was absolutely no question about that one.
How about this: that’s the third time in the last four games that the Cubs hit back-to-back homers. (Schwarber and Avila, Baez and Happ.)
