Jose Quintana is on the mound for the Cubs tonight, after a tough-luck outing in San Francisco, wherein his results were a bit worse than how well he actually pitched.
He’s still one of the Cubs’ best starting pitchers, of course, and has been striking a ton of guys out since coming to the north side: 28.4 K%.
Opposing Quintana and the Cubs is Asher Wojciechowski, whose name I’ve been copying and pasting all day, instead of learning how to spell it, because, I mean, come on.
Wojciechowski is in just his second Major League season, after debuting with the Astros back in 2015. Through six starts this season, he’s got a 6.11 ERA as a starter and opposing hitters are batting .292/.339/.618 (.395 wOBA) in 28 innings pitched. In other words, the Cubs batters should be feeling all tingly inside.
He’s also been much worse against lefties for his career (.377 wOBA) than righties (.324 wOBA) though that includes time as a reliever. Hopefully, he stays true to form tonight and struggles with the six Cubs who’ll bat from the left side of the plate (which does not include the right-handed batting Jose Quintana).
Do what needs to be done tonight, Cubs. Please.
