In a delightful rant last week, long-time Chicago White Sox color commentator Hawk Harrelson went off on Wrigley Field, calling it a “joke,” and saying that he “will never step foot in that ballpark again.”
Given Harrelson’s homerism proclivities and angry tangents, it was just kind of a funny aside for a guy who is retiring next year.
But Harrelson went even further in follow-up comments, telling The Score: “It’s just time for that ballpark to be replaced. It’s just that simple. I’m only saying stuff that everybody knows who goes there. But nobody wanted to say it, so I decided yeah (to say it). I’ll never step another foot inside Wrigley Field.”
Apparently a fan of cookie cutter modern parks, I do admire Harrelson saying, without equivocation, what he thinks. Even if his perspective is pat-on-the-head ridiculous.
For their part, the Cubs’ Twitter account had a brilliant way to respond to Harrelson’s comments after an Anthony Rizzo homer last night:

Just perfect. A little wink at Harrelson, and we all get a good laugh.
