I’d imagine that, if you’re like me, you’re still kicking some rocks about yesterday’s near comeback and Jon Lester injury, but here’s something fun to start your day.
The Iowa Cubs were playing a doubleheader yesterday, which, in the minor leagues, means a seven-inning affair. The shortened span helps the players get through the day, but also opens up the possibility of an artificially-shortened feat … like a perfect game.
And so it was for the I-Cubs’ opponent, Colorado Springs, and their starter Angel Ventura, who’d gone six perfect innings when outfielder John Andreoli stepped to the plate in the bottom of the final frame.
That’s when Andreoli not only broke up the perfecto, he also walked the I-Cubs off:

That was Andreoli’s 12th homer on the year, and he’s hitting .249/.357/.449 at Iowa as quality outfield depth.
