The Cubs held on to win another one over the Blue Jays, with Ian Happ and Javy Baez playing hero, together with starter Jose Quintana.
Quintana was excellent today, netting strikeouts and groundballs all over the place. It was unfortunate that one of those groundballs was perfectly placed up the third base line, and was followed by a two-run bloop single, but on the whole, Quintana was very effective through six innings.
That two run hit actually put the Cubs down 2-1, but Ian Happ tied things up with a rocket opposite field shot, and then scored the lead run for the Cubs on a Javy Baez single. Anthony Rizzo added a necessary insurance run on a hit thereafter.
The Cubs allowed the obligatory 8th inning run in this one, though it was aided by a bounce off of third base and an errant throw by Kris Bryant. Speaking of which, Bryant had an extremely busy day at third base, making a couple really nice plays, making a couple errors, and seeing a couple grounders get by him up the line.
The 9th inning was mundane once again thanks to Wade Davis and another drop-your-jaw play by Javy Baez.
Oh, and the 7th inning belonged to this guy:
