Was that the most comfortable Cubs win from end to end in a long time? I’m thinking it was.
The Cubs came out of the gate scoring, and then didn’t let up. Mike Montgomery came out of the gate cruising, and ultimately went six scoreless. The bullpen had only to mop things up from there, and even a three-homer 9th inning off of Hector Rondon couldn’t shake my comfort. (After all, you’re supposed to be grooving them at that point.)
Bonus: we got to see just how large the lead threshold needed to be for Justin Wilson to have a smooth, comfortable inning with the Cubs. Nine runs. I kid, mostly, and it’s actually good to see him get out there for an inning and just throw strikes.
The Cubs got dingers (and bonus fun) from Kyle Schwarber and Tommy La Stella, and they weren’t missing Kris Bryant too much in this one.
That’s five wins in a row!
