Cubs Minor League Daily: End Of Season All-Stars Have Started Arriving

In addition to the mid-season All-Star teams that play in the relevant All-Star game, many minor leagues also name end of year All-Star teams. Those announcements are starting to come out now now, and there are some Cubs on the initial lists.

In Iowa, Victor Caratini is the 2017 All-Star catcher, and Matt Carasiti is the only reliever to be so honored. Caratini will certainly be headed back to Chicago in the next couple of days. Carasiti could come up, but he will need a 40-man roster slot.

Tennessee had two infielders make the All Star roster: David Bote and Jason Vosler. Vosler is a corner infielder with plenty of left-handed power and good plate discipline, and Bote is a second baseman who broke out this season with a career high 14 home runs. Both were also named to the Arizona Fall League roster.

Keep an eye out for the Carolina League and Midwest League lists in the next few days.

Triple A: Iowa Cubs
Memphis 5, Iowa 4
Iowa has lost five straight and fallen back into the basement.

  • Williams Perez:  4.2 IP, 5 R, 9 H, 1 BB, 4 K
  • Dillon Maples:  1 IP, 1 H, 1 K
  • Jack Leathersich:  1 IP, 1 BB, 2 K
  • Mike Freeman:  2 for 4
  • Bijan Rademacher:  2 for 4
  • Jacob Hannemann:  2 for 4, HR, SB
  • Double A: Tennessee Smokies

Tennessee was rained out. By my unofficial count, this is Tennessee’s eleventy billionth rain out of the season.

    High A: Myrtle Beach Pelicans
Myrtle Beach 1, Buies Creek 0 in ten innings.
Pitching duels don’t get much better than this.

  • Oscar De La Cruz:  3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 K
  • Kyle Miller:  2.2 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 3 K
  • Dakota Mekkes:  2 IP, 2 H, 2 K
  • Pedro Araujo:  2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K
  • Connor Myers:  1 for 3, BB, SB
  • Roberto Caro:  3 for 4
  • Low A: South Bend Cubs
South Bend 2, West Michigan 0
The Cubs missed a chance to pull into a tie with Bowling Green.

  • Jose Paulino:  6 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 2 BB, 5 K
  • Manuel Rodriguez:  2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K
  • Kevonte Mitchell:  2 for 4
  • Luis Ayala:  0 for 1, 2 BB
  • Short Season A: Eugene Emeralds
    Eugene 12, Everett 0
Eugene is once again tied with Boise.

  • Jesus Camargo:  5 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 10 K
  • Ben Hecht:  2 IP, 1 H, 2 K
  • Jake Steffens:  2 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K
  • Zach Davis:  2 for 5, 2B, SB
  • Jared Young:  4 for 5, 2B, HR
  • Austin Filiere:  3 for 4, 2B, HR, BB
  • Michael Cruz:  1 for 4, HR, BB
  • Brandon Hughes:  2 for 5
  • Chris Singleton:  2 for 4, 2B, HR, BB
  • Rookie: AZL Cubs
    Angels 5, Cubs 4
The Angels and Cubs are now tied for first.

  • Brendan King:  3 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 4 K
  • Alfredo Colorado:  5 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 3 H, 2 BB, 7 K
  • Carlos Sepulveda:  1 for 4, 2B, BB
  • Jonathan Sierra:  3 for 4, 2B, BB
  • Carlos Diaz:  2 for 4, 2 2B
  • Other Notes

  • Of Eugene’s 14 total hits yesterday, 8 of them went for extra bases. In addition to hitting the 4 doubles and 4 homers, the Emeralds only struck out 6 times.
  • South Bend has set a home attedance record for three straight seasons, and they are on track to make it four. The record setting fan should pass through the gates sometime tomorrow.
  • Myrtle Beach manager Buddy Bailey recently passed the 2,000 win mark for his career, and the Pelicans’ Scott Kornberg recently wrote a very good article on the remarkable career and impact of Bailey. It is a long read, but I strongly recommend it.
  • The Myrtle Beach Pelicans have pulled an asortment of signed memorbilia onto their auction page with proceeds going to support hurricane relief efforts in Texas. Most fans would probably be interested in a Jon Lester or Andre Dawson signed baseball. And for those of us still secretly watching Eloy Jimenez highlights, he has an autographed ball on the list as well.
  • Brett: I could not possibly want Alfredo Colorado to be a successful Cubs prospect any more. He’s a 21-year-old in rookie ball, so that raises some questions, but he does have great results! Please!
