It is true that any loss is not good, and it is true that the Cubs could have won this one with a few changes to the drama here and there.
But a loss that follows six straight wins, and that includes Javy Baez getting hurt, leaves me with very little to get all hot and bothered about. I’m far more concerned about Baez being OK within a few days (fingers crossed) than I am about the Cubs finally dropping a game for the first time in a week. It was going to happen eventually.
The Cubs got an acceptable pitching performance from Mike Montgomery, but he was out-dueled overall by Braves pitching, which held the Cubs to an Ian Happ homer and bupkis.
At least we got to see Dillon Maples’ big league debut with a scoreless frame and a nasty strikeout.
