Chicago Cubs Lineup: Javy Isn’t Going ANYWHERE, Baby (UPDATE: Well Actually, He’s Been Scratched)

Chicago Cubs

Well how do you like that?

After teasing a possible absence on Instagram earlier today, Javy Baez is right back in the lineup after a rough head-first slide into second base yesterday.

UPDATE: He’s been scratched with left thumb soreness. The excitement was short-lived, but getting Baez some rest is not a bad thing.

Take a look:

  1. Jon Jay, CF
  2. Kyle Schwarber, LF
  3. Kris Bryant, 3B
  4. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
  5. Ben Zobrist, 2B
  6. Alex Avila, C
  7. Jason Heyward, RF
  8. Javy Baez, SS Mike Freeman
  9. Jake Arrieta, P

I guess the vision is fine and the cabeza is feeling good. (Again, as the UPDATE notes, it’s not the head or eyes. Original post follows.)

Considering the drop off in talent between Baez to the next guy at short (Mike Freeman or Ben Zobrist), I’m absolutely ecstatic that he’s back in there today. Hopefully, he/the team isn’t forcing anything – though, I doubt the Cubs would be too risky with someone as crucial as Baez – but yeah, this is GREAT news, all things considered.

Other than that, Jon Jay is leading off today and playing center field, while 2-5 in the order is business as usual (Schwarber, Bryant, Rizzo). Alex Avila is back in there behind the plate and batting sixth after a couple of days off in favor of Rene Rivera, and Ben Zobrist is back at second, batting fifth.

Jason Heyward remains in right, and Jake Arrieta is pitching and batting ninth. The Series Preview will be out shortly, and, as usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time (3:05 CT).

In the meantime, heads up on a great deal going on:
