We can’t do something like that Jason Heyward post (or the Off-Day Check-In that looms, ominously in the near future) without something fun and happy to offset the discomfort.
In yesterday’s game, the outcome of which is WHOLLY IMMATERIAL TO THIS POST I SAW NOTHING DID THE CUBS WIN I DON’T REMEMBER MAYBE THEY DID, Ryan Braun slapped a routine grounder toward Javy Baez at shortstop.
Thing was, it wasn’t only the baseball that was sent out toward Baez – Braun’s bat snapped, and the barrel headed straight for Baez, too. In fact, the barrel actually HIT the ball as it bounced toward shortstop. To say that most players would probably have had their concentration impacted is an fair, and I’m not sure how many would have attempted the play in the same way, let alone made it.
But Javy Baez is El Mago, and you can see how he made the play right here at MLB.com. The GIF version shows just how late the ball hit the bat and redirected:

It’s still up for debate whether the Brewers’ voodoo Javy doll had an impact on the Cubs, but we can conclusively say that broken bats do not do the trick.
