Chicago Cubs Lineup: If It Ain’t Broke …
The Cubs came roaring out of their well-needed off-day on Monday with a huge win over the Mets last night.
And given how well the offense clicked, Maddon has decided to stay hands off for the follow-up performance:
- Ben Zobrist, 2B
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Willson Contreras, C
- Ian Happ, CF
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Javy Baez, SS
- Jon Lester, P
With the exception of the pitcher, Jon Lester, that lineup is identical to the one Joe Maddon wrote up the day before. And, frankly, in the absence of Addison Russell, I believe that is the best offensive lineup the Cubs have to offer against righties.
You have to believe that if they succeed again tonight, we’ll see this group out there a lot more often than we have in the past, and I’m willing to bet many of you will be quite happy about that. The only new question about tonight is wondering how long Willson Contreras will stay in the game. He lasted seven full innings (4 plate appearances) yesterday, so I’m willing to bet will see something similar tonight.
Also, there’s more on his and Schwarber’s big night coming soon. So stay tuned, and, as usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time (7:05 CT).
