From a moral perspective, I still say it was fundamentally wrong that Willson Contreras was suspended at all for his face mask spike on Friday. The ump totally blew a huge call, knew it, and needed to wear it if Contreras wanted to jaw at him a bit. But the ump doubled down, started the ejection process, and Contreras erupted in that moment. The mask bounced in a crazy direction, and hit the ump. Fine him, sure. Suspend him? Ridiculous.
In any case, the practical effect is now zero:
#Cubs Contreras suspension has been reduced to one game. He will serve it today

With the Cubs facing Lance Lynn and his brutal splits against righties, Contreras wasn’t going to play today anyway. Maybe a late pinch hit appearance, but nothing else. Not much of a loss at all. With the off-day tomorrow, Contreras probably would have gotten a full day off today anyway.
Maybe Cardinals fans will complain about that, but this is the worst that is deserved. There shouldn’t have been a suspension anyway, so this is “fair.”
I’ll move on.
