For six innings, it’s hard to overstate just how dominant Michael Wacha looked. The Cardinals righty was not only getting the edges and the bottom of the zone, he was putting it right where he wanted every time. And then when he wanted to go high, he would unleash a 98 mph fastball that no one could touch.
It didn’t look great for the Cubs.
And then things exploded. Anthony Rizzo singled, Ben Zobrist singled, and Addison Russell crushed one:

There was no doubt that he hit that one hard enough and far enough – it just had to stay fair. And it did!
That gave the Cubs a 3-1 lead, which they’ve since expanded to 4-1 as of the moment I click publish …
