Relax, Cubs fans.
Stressful days lie ahead, but these next four games should be enjoyably peaceful (I hope):
- Leonys Martin, CF
- Tommy La Stella, 2B
- Ian Happ, RF
- Alex Avila, C
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Victor Caratini, 1B
- Taylor Davis, 3B
- Mike Freeman, SS
- Kyle Hendricks, P
Ah post-clinching lineups. They never change.
The closest thing you’ll see to regulars tonight is Ian Happ and Kyle Schwarber in both of the outfield corners, and … that’s about it. Otherwise, it’s all backup guys: Leonys Martin draws the start in center and leads off, backup catcher Alex Avila grabs a start behind the plate, Victor Caratini spells Rizzo at first, and catcher Taylor Davis is playing third!
With Russell and Baez grabbing some rest, it’s Mike Freeman and Tommy La Stella up the middle, and look for Kyle Hendricks on the mound.
As I mentioned, the Cubs have four more games starting tonight, but you should expect plenty of rest for the regulars during this last week. After a long, grueling season, they deserve it (and borderline need it) ahead of a tough NLDS matchup. Let’s go Cubs!
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time (6:15 CT).
