Well, for the fourth straight time in the NLCS, the Chicago Cubs have taken the lead on an early home run. This time, it (well, the first one) came off the bat of Willson Contreras and hit about 3/4 of the way up the video board in left field. Seriously. It was absolutely demolished.

That doesn’t just look destroyed, it was. According to Statcast, that ball traveled 491 feet, which is BY FAR the furthest of the 2017 postseason (topping a previous high of 444 feet by Chris Taylor last night). At the time, it gave the Cubs a 1-0 lead.
UPDATE: Now I’m seeing it was the furthest postseason homer ever tracked by Statcast:

But unlike the first three games of this series, the Cubs weren’t done there. After Addison Russell followed Contreras with a strikeout, Javy Baez sent a solo shot of his own into the left field bleachers.

According to Statcast, that one was sent out at a ridiculous 105 MPH and traveled 437 feet, which ranks as the third deepest homer of the 2017 postseason.
Unfortunately, before I was even able to finish this post, Cody Bellinger answered with a solo shot of his own. But hey, the Cubs got two in their half of the inning, and that means tonight is different, right?
