I’m writing this post while listening to the song “My Way” by Frank Sinatra and it feels oddly appropriate for tonight.
After all the Cubs season could end with a whimper if the Dodgers sweep them out of the NLCS, but is this not what we asked for? I mean, take a look at that lineup down there. Seriously, look at the names and think of the people. With the exception of Jon Jay in right field, and, to an extent, Jake Arrieta on the mound, these are our Cubs – our guys – and they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
How could we not be happy?
So if we have to go down tonight and say goodbye to the 2017 season, at least there’s no other team I rather do it with. I am so looking forward to the next half-decade with this group, and couldn’t be prouder of what they’ve already accomplished.
***
I wrote about Dodgers’ lefty Alex Wood earlier, and Brett wrote about Jake Arrieta’s potential last start as a Chicago Cub right here, so use those as your pitching profiles for tonight.
Otherwise, enjoy the game, friends, because there might not be much in the way of meaningful baseball for a while.
