With Ben Zobrist (D.J. LeMahieu) and Anthony Rizzo (Paul Goldschmidt) losing out in their bids for a Gold Glove tonight, Jason Heyward was the team’s last chance for some kind of hardware honor this year (aside from Rizzo’s fantastic Roberto Clemente win).
And, for the fifth time in his career, and fourth year in a row, Heyward did it:

Some of the defensive metrics weren’t as high on Heyward this year as in the recent past, but it’s very hard to watch him for more than a few games and not see how special he is out there. His reads, his routes, his speed, his decision-making, his arm. It’s pretty much all perfect out there.
So, for all the struggles that continue to drag him down at the plate, Heyward hasn’t let it affect him in the outfield, where he continues to be a pitcher’s best friend in right field.
