It Ain’t Spring Training for Defense Apparently: La Stella and Happ With Stellar Plays (VIDEO)

Chicago Cubs

Don’t tell these guys the games don’t count. Right from the word go, the Cubs’ defenders were ready to put together a highlight reel.

The first batter of the game for the Brewers, speedy Keon Broxton, dribbled a sure infield hit to third base. But Tommy La Stella, looking like Kris Bryant (he’s excellent at this play), barehanded it and made a great throw:

That guy may just make the club.

Meanwhile, playing in center field, where he’ll hope to pick up a lot of starts this year, Ian Happ made a sweet diving catch to end a bases-loaded situation:

That was all out right there! I think the wind out there is playing tricks with the outfielders a bit, because it looked like neither Happ nor Jacob Hannemann got a good read on that one (and other outfielders have struggled a bit today). Nice recovery by Happ.
