The Chicago Cubs (6-1) are unstoppable force this Spring, which means they’re destined for another World Series bout. I’m pretty sure that’s how this works.
And after beating the Reds at home yesterday, they’ll head to the Rangers Spring home, Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, to win another one today.
Like Friday, Jason Heyward finds himself in the leadoff role, but as we’ve discussed, we don’t necessarily expect to see him there once the regular season begins. To be sure, there’s a chance (and, historically, his offensive profile would definitely fit in that spot), but this is probably more about getting some extra at-bats and even working on the mental side of the game than anything else.
As for any other regulars, you’ll find Javy Baez at second, batting second, Willson Contreras catching and batting third, Addison Russell at short cleaning up, and Albert Almora in center batting sixth. Efren Navarro, who bats fifth today, continues draw a lot of starts this Spring, as does Peter Bourjos who takes over left field and bats last.
On the pitching side, Jon Lester will get his second start of the Spring, and could be followed by Oscar De La Cruz at some point (I love watching this guy pitch). If you have MLB TV and De La Cruz gets into the game, be sure to give him a look. As long as he can stay healthy, he’s a no-doubt future Major Leaguer.
If you’re a subscriber, the D-Backs broadcast will be available on MLB.TV, and if not you can catch the game on the radio via 670 The Score.
