With today’s Cubs Spring Training game one of the rare night affairs, I thought it made sense to get the lineup out the door as soon as it came out, rather than making folks wait until the Pre-Gamin’, which is usually what we do in Spring Training.
So, here’s the crew that’ll head to Goodyear to take on the Indians:
- Ian Happ, DH
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Albert Almora, CF
- Tommy La Stella, 3B
- Chris Gimenez, C
- Efren Navarro, 1B
- Peter Bourjos, RF
- Ryan Court, 2B
- Mike Freeman, SS
That’s a pretty typical first-half-of-Spring-Training lineup right there, with the expected big leaguers taking the top spots to maximize at bats, and then the upper-minor-league reserves filling in at the other positions while the regulars get a day off.
Ian Happ is lapping the field in leadoff starts this spring, and, since he’s done nothing but rake there, I think it’s safe to presume he’s the favorite to get leadoff starts in the regular season, too … when he’s in the lineup, which won’t necessarily be every day.
Jose Quintana makes his second spring start tonight at 7pm CT. This one is televised on WGN-9 for those in Chicago, and MLB Network for those who aren’t. Hopefully that means lots of folks will be able to watch this one.
