By now you know we don’t do individual lineup posts for Spring Training games, unless there’s relatively big news to discuss – and today there is!
After leaving a Cactus League game with an apparent hamstring injury on March 8th, Javy Baez has been out of action for over a week. Naturally, in the time since that injury, which he and the Cubs said was due to general dehydration, Baez said he was already back too 100% (or better!), but out of action he remained – and he even went to get an MRI (fortunately, that was clean).
On Thursday, we learned that he might return to the lineup this weekend, and what do you know: today, he has returned.
Here’s the Cubs lineup for their first game of the day (at Sloan Park):
- Ian Happ, CF
- Javy Baez, 2B
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Ben Zobrist, RF
- Tommy La Stella, 3B
- Efren Navarro, 1B
- Mike Freeman, SS
- Taylor Davis, C
- Eddie Butler, P
There’s good old Javy Baez playing and batting second in a Spring tilt against the Indians at home. Given how confident he was in his own health, I was never really concerned that this would be an issue, but suffice it to say, I’m glad I no longer have to consider it.
Hopefully, Baez plays four or five innings of healthy, productive baseball today and this all forgotten by the start of the season.
As usual, we’ll have a full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time with the Cubs lineup for their other game today, and more on both matchups.
