The regular season is a different animal for so many reasons, but if Yu Darvish can look like this in the weeks ahead, he’s gonna be just fine as a Cub. And a lot of fun to watch.
Enjoy Darvish toying with the Rangers, striking out seven:
Hey, bonus appearance from a nice running Kyle Schwarber catch there at the end.
Having gone with the pause-leg-delay delivery without runners on base for so many of his pitches this spring, I think it’s safe to assume we’re going to see it periodically in the regular season. That ultra pause one, however, may have just been a momentary loss of balance and an incredible recovery. But, man, if he could do that one on purpose, too?
In any case, Darvish just continues to expand his arsenal. Not only can he come at you with six different pitches, but he can also vary his delivery timing just to mess you up further. If he had three different timing rhythms and six different pitches, that’s like having 18 different pitches to prepare for!
