Happy Easter! Did you have a great day with your family and eat lots of candy? If not, it’s not too late! Go do that! Then come back here and read this.
The Cubs have to settle for a split in Miami, which, against these Marlins – without JT Realmuto or Dan Straily, to boot – is a really disappointing outcome.
Today’s game was equal parts frustrating (the Cubs had so many chances to score early and kept failing to come through (admittedly in part to some bad BABIP luck, but also some bat at bats)) and ugly (the Marlins erupted for five runs on Jose Quintana in the 5th).
Jose Quintana, like Yu Darvish yesterday, just wasn’t quite hitting his spots or missing bats. The Marlins were able to battle him fairly comfortably in each at bat, and eventually, that translated to stringing together some hits. Hopefully, like with Darvish, it was just one of those days, but it was especially frying to see it right after Darvish looked that way.
On the bright side, Addison Russell and Kyle Schwarber are looking really locked in at the plate. Comfortable and confident, and really blistering the ball.
On to Cincinnati …
