Pre-Gamin’: Cubs at Brewers (3:05 CT) – Lineups, Broadcast Info, Game Thread

Chicago Cubs

So the Cubs lost last night and the Brewers evened the series, but there’s still two more games in this one, and the Cubs have a couple of very good starters left to deploy. First up, Yu Darvish.

In his Cubbie-debut, Darvish went just 4.1 innings, allowing five earned runs on two walks and five hits (including a homer). Uncharacteristically, he struck out only four Marlins batters and hardly got any grounders.

BUT it wasn’t actually all bad. In that game, Darvish induced a 25% infield fly ball rate (which typically means hitters are struggling to square you up) and matching 23.1% soft and hard-hit rates. Those are all excellent numbers, especially when we more or less *know* the strikeouts will come (that’s sorta his thing). Hopefully today, he can bounce back with that first great start as a Cub, and show some of the more unfamiliar fans what they have to look forward to over the next several years.

Starting opposite Darvish is Brewers righty, Zach Davies. Davies, 25, has made just one start for the Brewers this year and while the peripherals look good (5.2 IP, 6Ks, 0BBs), the results were not (7R, 6ER, 8H, 1HR). Indeed, Davies allowed a ton of fly balls in his first game of the year (37.5 FB%) and even more hard contact (58.8%). In fact, he got almost no soft contact at all (5.9%), so hopefully the Cubs come in swinging.

As for his splits, Davies has been a little tougher on righties (.310 wOBA) than lefties (.324 wOBA) for his career, so there’s definitely something there, it’s just not particularly significant. In fact, while lefties tend to hit Davies for more power, righties tend to make more contact. Good thing the Cubs have a balance of both.

All of your game and broadcast info is listed below. Now let’s see if the Cubs can guarantee themselves a series split.
