Must be a Friday the 13th thing …
The Cubs’ disappointing start continued today with a shutout at the hands of the Braves … the latest early-season “cupcake” the Cubs were supposed to be beating up on. Instead, the Cubs simply got HANDLED. Don’t try to predict baseball on a day-to-day basis, man.
Yu Darvish battled his command in this one, costing himself extra pitches from the get-go, and ultimately the three-run homer that bounced him from the game before he’d finished five innings. Yes, I’ll grant that the conditions were terrible today – very cold with strong and constantly shifting winds – and it couldn’t have been easy to pitch. But if you’re going to go that route, you also have to acknowledge that the Cubs’ bats did a whole lot of nothing. So …
Very little good in this one, apart perhaps from another couple hits for Ian Happ (get that confidence backup and the holes out of that swing) and another perfect day for the bullpen.
Go do something fun with your Friday evening …
