Well, the Cubs lost the series opener yesterday and are now at risk to lose three in a row for the first time this year. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen.
Starting for the Cubs today is left-hander Jose Quintana. Quintana has lasted six innings in each of his first two starts this year, but allowed six runs in the first and none in the second. He also walked more batters than he struck out during his 2018 debut in Miami, but followed it up with a 2BB, 6K performance in Milwaukee. Hopefully, he can build off the momentum of his last game, then, and help the Cubs get this series back on track.
Starting for the Braves today is left-hander Sean Newcomb. As we discussed in the lineup post, Newcomb is a pretty split neutral pitcher, so Cubs hitters from both sides of the plate have a good chance against him. HOWEVA, his last start against the Rockies in Colorado was a bonafide gem (albeit a short one): 6.0 IP, 5H, 0ER, 0BB, 9Ks. He gave up five earned runs over 4.1 innings against the Nationals before that, but clearly he has the power to dominate. Let’s hope the Cubs give him more trouble.
Get back to .500, dudes. Let’s go.
