The Cubs didn’t get a chance to build off their momentous Saturday afternoon victory, but given the way that played out, it was a good weekend overall. Now it’s time to put the nails to the Cardinals.

Friday, April 13

• Luke opened up the weekend with Friday’s Minor League Daily, recapping Tyler Thomas’ dominate start to the 2018 season.
• Friday’s Bullets included special attention to Kyle Schwarber’s good game on Thursday and Javy Baez’s silly controversy.
• The Cubs reported final, theoretical offer to Jake Arrieta was for six years and $120 million.
• The Cubs were listed among the three favorites for Manny Machado after this season.
• The cast of ‘The Sandlot’ reunited on the 25th anniversary of the movie.
• Albert Almora was scratched from the lineup with an illness.
• Anthony Rizzo’s status is looking good, according to Joe Maddon.
• The MLBits looked at, among other things, Clayton Kershaw’s opt-out, and his earning potential after the season.
• Joe Maddon came to Javy Baez’s defense after the comments from Clint Hurdle.

• The game was postponed, which wasn’t terrible, because Anthony Rizzo missed one fewer game.
• Sunday’s Bullets examined Rizzo’s return, Freddie Freeman’s comments about the conditions on Saturday, and the unlikelihood of the comeback.
