Cubs Call Up Utility Prospect David Bote

Chicago Cubs

With Ben Zobrist hitting the disabled list, the Cubs have opted to bring up a versatile infielder from AAA to help mind the store.

(Also, it appears based on that backdate that you can now only backdate a maximum of three days, which … is really dumb. There was not ill-gotten advantage to be gained here, since Zobrist has already sat out for a week.)

David Bote, 25, broke out as a legit prospect with the Cubs over the last two years as his power took a huge step forward. He ranked as the 11th best prospect in the system at the start of this season in Luke’s top 40 rankings.

He’s currently hitting .238/.273/.548 for Iowa, and leads the team with three homers. He can play all over, and is immediately getting a start tonight at third base (with Kris Bryant in right field). Good luck, young man.
