Given how well the Cubs offense has been clicking lately, here’s what I actually want to see (more than anything else) during tonight’s game: a strong, lengthy, solid performance from Yu Darvish with very few walks and a ton of strikeouts.
Of course, given his penchant for allowing balls in the air, Coors is probably not the best environment for Darvish, but if he can muster up some extra strikeouts (like he has throughout his career), he should be just fine. And, hey, the Rockies have been one of the most strikeout-prone teams in baseball this season (24.9 K%, 8th highest in MLB). So he’s got that going for him.
I’d also love to see the Cubs bats feast on a lefty Tyler Anderson, who has strong, traditional splits (.296 wOBA versus lefties, .344 wOBA versus righties).
In fact, given the solid performances for Javy Baez and Albert Almora lately, this matchup couldn’t have come at a better time. They put in their hacks against some right-handers and succeeded, and now they have a chance to hit with the advantage immediately after. That should do plenty for their confidence, and, hopefully, the Cubs bottom line.
