Good morning. Did you miss Javy Baez’s latest incredible performance? Did you see it but nevertheless want to see it again, because obviously?

Obviously the homer was great, but how about that fake-out-the-outfielder hustle double? That’s just Javy being the magical dude he is. Because of what followed, he wound up scoring after that double when he probably would have been erased on a double play if he had stayed at first base.
Baez’s two outs on the night, by the way, were an infield dribbler that he almost beat out for a hit, and a rocket to deep center that Charlie Blackmon tracked down. He’s just so locked in right now.
He even had the Cubs fans in attendance last night chanting “Ja-vy” so loud that it was crystal clear on the broadcast:

Baez’s numbers to start the season are currently at “stupid” level – .290/.371/.742 – and his 188 wRC+ is third best in the National League. He’s already been worth 1.1 WAR, which is half the level he was at for ALL of 2016 or 2017.
Oh, and he still has a BABIP that is 50 points below his career average despite improving his hard contact. So … you could actually say Baez has been unlucky. Heh.
