Per the Chicago Sun Times, Cubs shortstop Addison Russell had to stay behind overnight in Denver yesterday (as the Cubs made their way to Cleveland for their next series), because of an allergic reaction to something he ate from the postgame spread in the clubhouse.

Indeed, according to Gordon Wittenmyer, Russell spent a few hours at under observation at a Denver hospital, before returning to his hotel, spending the night, and flying out to Cleveland earlier today. Food allergies can be no joke, hence the hospital visit. Glad he knows his body well enough to take care of himself in these situations.
If Russell didn’t get some rest yesterday (he didn’t start, but he did get into the game eventually) and didn’t have the off-day to recover today, I wouldn’t expect him to start tomorrow (especially considering how well Javy Baez has been doing). But with Ben Zobrist on the disabled list, and with Russell apparently feeling fine after coming home from the hospital, I think he will be out there if he’s still feeling fine.
Get these Cubs out of Colorado already, right? Kris Bryant takes a pitch to the head, Albert Almora’s body gets battered on every play, Carl Edwards Jr. gets hit by a comebacker, and Ben Zobrist hits the disabled list (yeah, that’s right, it happened this weekend so I’m blaming Colorado).
