IT HAPPENED!
No, not that. Although, yeah, that did happen. I’m talking about … a Cubs starting pitcher reaching the 7th inning! It finally happened, and it was Tyler Chatwood – not Jon Lester or Kyle Hendricks or Yu Darvish or Jose Quintana – who made it happen. Of course, he allowed a single in the 7th and was immediately pulled, but hey, it happened!
The start was a quintessential “good” Tyler Chatwood start, insofar as he was still wild as all get out, nasty as all get out, and constantly in trouble. His stuff allows him to get out of trouble right now, because he’s getting strike outs and plenty of weak contact. But still, dude, you’re making me nervous with the insane volume of walks. Rainy night something something?
In any case, it was a solid start by Chatwood.
Offensively, what can I say? The Cubs’ bats were ripping the ball all over the yard (and also getting some BABIP love in the infield). Every starter got a hit, the Cubs got homers from Ian Happ, Willson Contreras, and Kyle Schwarber (x2), and the Cubs loaded up on runs once again. They even went 5-16 with runners in scoring position for good measure.
Anthony Rizzo got a couple hits. Jason Heyward had a couple hits. Ian Happ had three hits. Javy Baez had two doubles, because singles are for idiots. And the Cubs didn’t even have Kris Bryant available in this one.
