Chicago Cubs

Dang it, Cubs. You wasted a golden “Cleveland blew a 3-1 lead” opportunity, not only because you didn’t come back, but also because an Anthony Rizzo throwaway in the 8th inning made it 4-1. Bah.

That Rizzo error, by the way, which was entirely meaningless in the final accounting, was his first in a year. Dude just doesn’t make mistakes.

Trevor Bauer pitched well tonight, so you’ve gotta give him some credit on that front. The Cubs did have plenty of chances to plate more than the one run they ultimately got, but you just won’t come through every night. I guess that’s easier to say after a nice run of offense, but it’s true. Sometimes you’ll just have nights like this. And that includes a couple deep shots that were just foul.

Similarly, Jon Lester pitched well, but three of the deep-ish shots he gave up did not go foul (including the one that hit the foul pole), and instead went for three solo homers. That won’t always be the case, and all in all, I was pleased with his outing.

I suppose I’m also not too chapped tonight because splitting a couple games in Cleveland without Kris Bryant available is not a bad outcome.
