Another win! And another guaranteed four-game series win over the Brewers! And now four games over .500 for the first time this year! Today is a good day!
Jose Quintana was absolutely dominant today, both in results and in individual performance. He was commanding all of his pitches, working both sides of the zone, and leaving Brewers hitters looking silly. Magnificent. After having a rough start to the season (like so many of his fellow starting pitchers), it’s great to see him have a brilliant outing (like so many of his fellow starting pitchers). Also: thanks for that, Brewers.
Quintana also got some help behind him from the defense on a really tough day for defense – Javy Baez saved a run with a sliding play, Albert Almora saved a wind/sun-aided hit with a hustle play.
Speaking of hustle, gotta love the way the Cubs scored their third run today, as Jason Heyward faked out Orlando Arcia on a Tommy La Stella single. Heyward headed to third on the hit, stopped, and then took off for home when it was too late for Yelich to make a good throw.
Albert Almora and Javy Baez each extended their hitting streaks (in the same inning, yielding another run, as they do) to 11 games today.
Even accounting for all of that, it was the guy who went 0-3 with a walk who stole the show …
