Javy Baez left last night’s game with a tight groin, and was re-evaluated today. Although he is not starting (against a righty who is tough on righties, you’ll note), he hopes he could still be available off the bench.
#Cubs Baez, not in lineup today, but says he feels better today after leaving last night with right groin tightness. Said he could pinch hit if necessary, but is ok with having an extra day to rest & recover.

Javy Baez says he's fine after leaving Monday's game with a groin strain. He won't start on Tuesday but thinks he can pinch hit. He's listed as day to day. https://t.co/cqHyNcOfHT

So, that’s certainly not bad news, though it doesn’t guarantee we’ll see Baez returning to the lineup tomorrow for the series finale against the Marlins, especially with an off-day on Thursday (as in, he could get three days of rest while missing only one additional game).
That said, tomorrow’s starter – Wei-Yin Chen – is a lefty with very strong traditional splits, so you’d love to be able to see Baez back in there tomorrow. Not risking anything tonight seems all the more wise.
