Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 13, Marlins 4 – May 9, 2018
Well that was fun! Another blowout! This is what the Cubs (1) needed and (2) should be doing against a team like the Marlins. After an ugly sweep in St. Louis, the Cubs had a fun, comfortable sweep at home.
All of Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Addison Russell had multiple extra-base hits including a homer. Willson Contreras had two triples and a double. Albert Almora had three hits. Jose Quintana threw a quality start in tough conditions. There was lovely stuff all over.
Justin Hancock made his big league debut in this one, and, although he gave up a two-run homer (on a nice pitch), he also flashed good stuff and should have taken a bases-loaded walk for an RBI if the ump hadn’t gone into “I have to get outta here” mode and called one six inches off the plate.
Mark Zagunis, the other young Cub who got a promotion today, notched his first big league hit.
