Today, the Cardinals announced that righty ace Carlos Martinez is headed to the disabled list with a lat strain.

The severity of Martinez’s injury hasn’t yet been disclosed – he pitched on Tuesday, a poor and short outing against the Twins – but it’s possible he’ll miss only one start if it’s nothing serious. We’ll keep an eye on it, obviously, as Martinez is extremely important to the Cardinals, but the Dispatch writeup, at least, doesn’t sound overly concerned.
The Cardinals are already currently without Yadi Molina (groin injury) for the next month or so.
