Since the Cubs lost at Wrigley Field yesterday, we’ll go with they’re starting a new series today against the Braves, eh?
And starting for the Cubs in this brand new series is Yu Darvish, who comes off the disabled list after dealing with the flu last week. Darvish’s start was all the way back on May 2, when he lasted just 4.1 innings against the Rockies, thanks to three walks and three homers allowed. Indeed, walks have been a bit of an issue for Darvish this season. Hopefully, he has his command tonight.
Starting opposite Darvish is Braves’ righty, Mike Foltynewicz. Foltynewicz has been pretty great this year (3.21 ERA, 3.57 FIP), leaning on a particularly impressive 26.0% strikeout rate. The good news is that he also walks a fair amount of batters and has done a poor job of keeping the ball on the ground. Hopefully, then, the Cubs can grab some extra base runners and knock ’em in with extra-base hits.
Even still, I think tonight’s game is going to come down to Darvish and how successful he is in his return to the mound. So, you know, fingers crossed.
